- □ Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (Chairman & CEO, Geewon Park) recently announced that its 1000MW ultra-supercritical(USC) boiler for thermal power plants, developed for the first time in Korea, has been selected as a Next-generation World Best Product.
- □ On November 8, Doosan’s 1000MW USC Boiler and 3MW wind turbine, the WinDS3000TM, were selected to be included in the 2014 World Best Products list by the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, bringing the company’s tally to 16 World Best Products.
- □ Doosan designed and developed the 1000MW USC Boiler with homegrown technology as part of a state-funded project, and has now succeeded in commercializing and supplying it to the Shin Boryeong Thermal Power Plant (1,000MW x 2) currently under construction. As the boiler was designed to withstand the highest steam conditions (270bar, 613℃, 624℃) in the world, it enhances efficiency by about 3 percent more than the conventional thermal power generation method, and effectively reduces electricity costs by 17.14 million dollars per 1GW a year.
- □ Doosan’s WinDS3000TM, a 3MW-class offshore wind turbine, acquired international certification in 2011 for the first time in Asia. Developed with homegrown technology, it reduces costs by enabling instant access for repair and maintenance. The wind turbine also features significantly enhanced safety and durability, enabling it to endure typhoons and rough currents.
- □ With the latest additions, Doosan has racked up a total of 16 world best products so far, starting with the seawater desalination plant enlisted in 2001, and including a crankshaft and a commercial nuclear power plant steam generator.
- □ The Next-generation World Best Products are selected by the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy after subjecting them to a thorough review comprising a broad range of criteria, including whether a product has been certificated as a new technology or new product within the past three years; whether it has received the Prime Minister’s prize in the categories of technology, quality or design within the past three years; and whether it has ranked within the top five in terms of global market share within the past five years.
