- Rabigh 2 thermal power plant achieves record-breaking man hours without any lost-time incident - Accident-free record achieved through implementation of excellent EHS program
  • □ Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (Chairman & CEO, Geewon Park) said on February 11 that it achieved 50 million safe man hours at the Rabigh 2 thermal power plant project, a project being carried out for Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), a client in Saudi Arabia.
  • □ The duration of safe man hours is a combined total of man hours worked at a site without any lost-time incidents occurring. The 50 million safe man hours is a record that can be achieved when 1,000 workers continue to execute a project eight hours daily for 17 years and two months.
  • □ As the Rabigh project involves many tasks that require handling of large-size heavy equipment and materials, the risk of industrial accidents is relatively high. The Rabigh 2 thermal power plant project is a project calling for concurrent construction of four 700MW-class thermal power plants through deployment of up to about 15,000 workers from 38 countries daily. As such, attainment of the 50 million safe man hours is all the more significant.
  • □ Doosan Heavy is operating a specialized EHS (Environment, Health, Safety) system focused on hands-on experience, which includes repeatedly conducting safety exercises to cope with actual accident situations, management of a daily all-staff ‘Safety Patrol’ program, and presentation of awards to exemplary workers, to ensure that workers with different languages and cultures can engage in work safely.
  • □ Hun-tak Kim, head of Doosan Heavy’s EPC BG, said “The attainment of 50 million safe man hours has provided an opportunity for the company to earn recognition for its technological prowess and project implementation capacity once again.” He added, “It is serving as an exemplary case for construction projects in Saudi Arabia, and has contributed to establishing a safe work culture.”
  • □ The Rabigh 2 project is a massive project, in which Doosan Heavy is supplying a 2800 MW-class (700MW X 4 units) thermal power plant as the sole contractor. The project, which was won from SEC in 2010, is slated for completion in April.
