Doosan Wins 200 Billion Won Contract to Deliver Power Plant Boiler to India

- Localization strategy through local affiliate wins new orders - Company expects additional orders amid rising power demand in India
  • □ Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (Chairman & CEO Geewon Park) announced on October 6 that it has been awarded a project to supply a 660 MW-class boiler to the Harduaganj thermal power plant in the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India.
  • □ In close cooperation with Toshiba, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction bagged the 200 billion won (USD 172 mil.) contract which entails manufacturing and construction of one 660MW-class boiler for the Harduaganj thermal power plant. The project will be carried out by collaborating with its local affiliate, Doosan Power Systems India, which is scheduled for completion by September 2019.
  • □ India is now one of the world’s two largest coal-fired thermal power markets along with China. Notably, as the Modi administration is promoting the ‘‘Make in India” initiative nationwide to boost and attract investment in the manufacturing industry, India is expected to see constantly rising power demand and consequently place orders for coal-fired thermal power plants amounting to around 18 GW per year by 2020.
  • □ Hwangjik Lee, CEO of Doosan’s Boiler BG, said, “Our efforts of localized marketing & sales activities through Doosan Power Systems India, established to quickly respond to our customers’ needs, has been capitalized with the new project,” adding, “Going forward, we expect additional orders to deliver power equipment and facilities in the Indian power market, which is expected to see robust growth.”
  • □ In 2011 Doosan had acquired AE&E Chennai Works, a local power equipment plant, thereby expanding its competiveness to win new orders in the Indian power market. By continuing its efforts for successful localization, Doosan went on to win a string of large scale projects to supply advanced boilers for the Kudgi and Lara power plants the following year.
