- □ Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (Chairman & CEO Geewon Park) announced on November 12 that the company had signed an agreement with the Gyeongnam Creative Economy Innovation Center (hereinafter ‘Gyeongnam Center’) and Changwon National University to collaborate in delivering an advanced training program named ‘Water Campus.
- □ The Water Campus program, which is tailored for prospective engineering students who aspire to a career as water professionals, will provide comprehensive training opportunities encompassing advanced engineering theories and expertise related with the water business.
- □ The advanced training course in ‘global water engineering’ will be delivered at two leading engineering universities in the country, Changwon National University and Mechatronics University, for students majoring in machine, environmental, civil or chemical engineering from next March. The course will consist of three hours of classes per week and will run for seventeen weeks.
- □ Students will learn about advanced water technologies including seawater desalination technologies and water/wastewater treatment technologies, and acquire in-depth theoretical knowledge as well as practical experience from plant tours of Doosan’s projects during the course. They will also acquire practical knowledge in seminars delivered by visiting professors drawn from among the ranks of Doosan’s engineering specialists.
- □ Doosan is also planning to open the Water Campus in Busan, where the company has built the Gijang Seawater Desalination Plant and in Daegu, where the country is building a water industry cluster to foster the growth of potential water professionals.
- □ Sangki Choi, head of the Gyeongnam Center, said, “Demand in the water industry is expected to increase not only in the Middle East and Europe, but also in Korea where water shortages have become a cause of concern due to the recent drought,” adding, “The center will closely collaborate with Doosan and prominent universities to support and train prospective water industry engineers under the Water Campus program.”
