- Company signs contract to supply main equipment for 2.4MWh ESS for KPX Building, largest output for a single building in Korea
  • □ Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (Chairman & CEO Geewon Park) announced on November 16 that it has signed a contract to supply the main equipment for the energy storage systems (ESS) to be installed at the headquarters building of Korea Power Exchange (Naju City, South Jeolla Province). After securing its first contract in September, almost immediately upon its initial foray into the ESS business, Doosan has recorded a second major achievement just two months later.
  • □ Doosan will supply the main equipment for the 2.4MWh ESS for KPX, including batteries and power conditioning system to Taekyung Electricity Industry, main contractor, by the year’s end. It boasts the largest output among all the ESSs installed in a single building in Korea to date.
  • □ ESS technology brings stability and reliability in power generation and enhances electrical efficiency by storing electricity during off-peak demand hours and then supplying the stored power during peak demand hours. Doosan was selected as the main business partner to deliver the ESS under the 2015 Smart Grid Implementation Project, which was hosted by the Korea Smart Grid Institute, in early September. As its first achievement, the company signed a contract to supply ESS facilities with Kwangjin Engineering, a manufacturing company specializing in pipes and bending.
  • □ Yongjin Song, head of Doosan’s strategic planning division, said, “Doosan has won two successive projects in the two months since it entered the ESS market,” adding, “We will accelerate our efforts to further expand our ESS business.”
  • □ The ESS market is expected to enjoy robust growth in the coming years due to government investment and a drop in battery prices. According to the global energy market survey firm Navigant Research, the global ESS market will grow by about 40 percent per annum, from 1,024MW (about US$ 1.5 billion) this year to 31,522MW (about US$ 30 billion) in 2024.
