  • □ Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (Chairman & CEO Geewon Park) has produced its second technical track executive.
  • □ Doosan announced on March 31 the promotion of General Manager Cheonsoon Jang (age 55), head of Turbine Shop 2, to Technical Vice President, an executive post specially devised for those on the technical career track. In 2014, Doosan promoted General Manager Sangwon Lee, then head of Turbine Shop 2, ushering in the era of technical track executives.
  • □ Cheonsoon Jang, who graduated from Cheong Ju Technical High School, joined Doosan in 1980, and since then, has for the past 35 years been spearheading the domestic production of core parts for turbines and generators, as well as the related quality assurance efforts.
  • □ Since 2011, Doosan has been operating a ‘Two Track Career Development Path,’ a special human resources development system designed to support the systematic nurturing of its technical employees. Site or factory employees who opt to go on the ‘On-Site Management Track,’ like Technical Vice President Cheonsoon Jang, are provided with the opportunity to win promotions to an executive-level post after serving as a site manager. Those who choose to go on the ‘Technical Expert Track’ can grow to become a ‘Meister,’ the highest honor given to specialists in the technical field, after they pass through the certification course required of technical experts.
  • □ So far Doosan has produced two Technical Vice Presidents and 10 Meisters through its Two Track Career Development Path system. Meisters focus on sharing the functional expertise and experience they acquired over the 30 or so years of working on site to their younger colleagues, and are provided with the chance to go on overseas training programs and are also rewarded with financial incentives for sharing their skills and know-how.
  • □ Technical Vice President Cheonsoon Jang said, “It was thanks to the special HR development system designed for the technical staff that I was able to manage my career more effectively and be provided with this chance to become an executive.” He added, “I plan to redouble my efforts to improve our product quality and productivity, so that we may be able to present our younger colleagues with a grand business vision.”
  • □ President Myungwoo Kim, head of Doosan’s Management Division, said, “Doosan has been introducing diverse systems to ensure the systematic development of our technical employees, including changing the titles for the technical staff, preparing a guidebook on our phased HR development process, and launching the Doosan Department at Changwon National University.” He added, “Going forward, we aim to provide far-reaching support to ensure that the technical employees, who constitute the backbone of the manufacturing industry, can further grow in their respective careers.”
