- Consortium formed with Kumho E&C wins KRW 124 billion order for eco-friendly system
- “Flue gas to be converted into water vapor” by removing pollutants

  • □ Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction disclosed on February 27 that it had won the order for the flue gas desulfurization (FGD) system of Shin Seocheon Thermal Power Plant from Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd. (KOMIPO).

  • □ Shin Seocheon Thermal Power Plant is a 1,000 MW power plant being constructed in Maryang-ri, Seo-myeon, Seocheon-gun of South Korea’s South Chungcheong Province. The FGD order won by the consortium formed with Kumho E&C follows on the heels of the turbine generator supply contract that was won by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction for the same power plant in 2015. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has recorded a performance of about 70 billion won in the supply of FGD systems.

  • □ The FGD system is an eco-friendly equipment that converts the smoke from power plant stacks into water vapor by removing SOx, an atmospheric pollutant, from the exhaust gas generated by thermal power plants.

  • □ “The FGD system in this supply contract applies Korea’s strictest environmental standards and world-class engineering requirements for SOx emissions reduction. We will aggressively penetrate the eco-friendly power generation market of desulfurization and denitrification systems, which were designed to reduce atmospheric pollutants,” said Jinwon Mok, CEO of Power Service BG at Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction.

  • □ In accordance with the “Comprehensive Plan on Fine Dust Control” announced in September last year, the Korean government plans to invest a sum of 7.2 trillion won by 2022 in order to enhance the performance of existing thermal power plants and replace all environmental control systems. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction had also won the contract for the Boryeong Thermal Power Plant Unit 3 performance improvement project in 2016.

* FGD (Flue Gas Desulfurization): Technology that applies principles such as absorption, adsorption, oxidation, and reduction to remove SOx from the exhaust gas of thermal power plants.
