  • □ Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction announced on November 12 that it had signed a cooperation agreement with Korea Midland Power (KOMIPO) on targeting the overseas hydropower markets. Attending the signing ceremony held at Doosan Heavy’s head office in Changwon were Woonghwan Roh, KOMIPO’s Business Division Head, and Kiyong Na, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction’s Executive Vice President.

  • □ With the signing of the agreement, the two companies will be cooperating on the “joint development of new overseas hydroelectric power businesses” and the “local manufacturing and engineering of hydropower plant equipment and the development of sales channels for exports.”

  • □ KOMIPO has been operating the 45MW Wampu hydropower plant in Sumatra Island, Indonesia since 2016 and the 55.4MW Tanggamus hydropower plant since 2018. The company is developing several hydropower plant projects in Indonesia.

  • □ Doosan began the hydropower business in the 1980s. Having been the main contractor for many hydropower plants in Korea, which add up to have a total installed capacity of 3100MW, Doosan has also supplied main components to overseas hydropower plants in the United States, India and the Philippines. The company is expanding its overseas business as it recently won the KRW 400 billion contract for the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower plant project in Nepal last month and is currently pursuing a hydropower plant project in Pakistan.

  • □ “Since this agreement will expand opportunities for us to strengthen our presence in the hydropower business at both home and abroad, which has until now been dominated by foreign companies, we plan to increase the local manufacturing and engineering of main components and promote the domestic hydropower ecosystem. We will aggressively target the Southeast Asian hydropower market, which is expected to grow to about 40GW by 2040,” said Kiyong Na, Doosan Heavy’s Executive Vice President.

  • □ In September last year, Doosan signed a business and technology cooperation agreement on hydropower generation with the leading global company Andritz Hydro of Austria in order to enhance self-reliance in hydropower engineering technology. The company is currently pursuing the localization of a 30MW hydroelectric turbine and generator jointly with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power(KHNP).
