- Supplier agreement worth KRW 320bn signed for main components such as gas turbine and steam turbine, with construction planned for completion by 2028
- Second gas turbine contract to be signed with Korea Western Power, marking a “repeat order” achieved based on solid 15,000+ hours of operational experience

Doosan Enerbility has once again received recognition for the reliability and technological excellence of its locally developed ultra-large gas turbine by winning the contract for the Yeosu Natural Gas Power Plant.

Doosan Enerbility announced on March 28th that it had signed a contract valued to be KRW 320 billion with Korea Western Power(KOWEPO) to supply the main components for the Yeosu Natural Gas Power Plant.  This contract holds huge significance as being a “repeat order” made by KOWEPO after its experience of operating the first Korean-made gas turbine at Gimpo Combined Heat and Power(CHP) plant for over 15,000 hours.

The signing ceremony which was held on March 28th at Signiel Seoul in Songpa-gu district was attended by the related parties, including Jungbok Lee, President of KOWEPO; Yeonin Jung, Vice Chairman and COO of Doosan Enerbility and Seungwoo Sohn, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Power Services Business Group. Based on the South Korean government’s Basic Plan for Long-Term Electricity Supply and Demand, the Yeosu Natural Gas Power Plant will be built in Yeosu city’s Myodo Port redevelopment zone as an eco-friendly 500MW plant that is to replace an aging power plant (Taean Thermal Power Plant Unit 3). It is to be a standard combined cycle demonstration plant boasting of the highest power generating efficiency in Korea.

Under the agreement, Doosan Enerbility will be delivering a 380MW H-class* ultra-large** gas turbine, steam turbine and heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) by 2028.  As the agreement also includes provisions concerning obligations, such as the emergency response measure for immediately addressing any anomalies that are detected and offering regular training sessions to help strengthen the plant operator’s technical capabilities, it is a partnership agreement covering the full lifecycle from the supply of main components to operation, maintenance and training.*  High-efficiency turbine model with a turbine inlet temperature in the range of 1500℃ or higher** Gas turbines can be categorized by its generation capacity into small-size (20~99.9MW), mid-size (100~214.9MW), large-size (215~299.9MW) and ultra-large (300MW+) turbines (Source: McCoy Report)

”We regard this as being truly meaningful and we very much appreciate being selected once again by KOWEPO for our gas turbines, a choice that was made after verifying the performance of our products through actual operation at the plant,” said Doosan Enerbility’s Vice Chairman Yeonin Jung.  “We aim to continuously strengthen the gas turbine full lifecycle partnerships that we have with our clients and to actively promote the exports of Korea’s gas turbines.”

In 2019, Doosan Enerbility had succeeded in the local manufacturing of a large-sized gas turbine for power generation and had jointly developed a 380MW Korean-standard combined cycle gas turbine model through collaboration with some 340 partners in the local industry, academia and research sectors. The company is also working on the development of an ultra-large 400MW 100% hydrogen-fueled turbine, with the targeted completion date set as 2027.▲ On Mar. 28, Jungbok Lee, President of KOWEPO(on the left) and Yeonin Jung, Vice Chairman & COO of Doosan Enerbility(on the right) pose for a photo at the Yeosu Natural Gas Power Plant Supplier Agreement Signing Ceremony held at Signiel Seoul.▲ On Mar. 28, attendees including Jungbok Lee, President of KOWEPO(7th from the left), Yeonin Jung, Vice Chairman & COO of Doosan Enerbility(7th from the right) and Seungwoo Sohn, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Power Services BG(5th from the right) pose for a group photo at the Yeosu Natural Gas Power Plant Supplier Agreement Signing Ceremony held at Signiel Seoul.
