-  KRW 6.7tn worth of new orders won by Doosan over past five years in Saudi Arabia, where a generation capacity of 6GW is forecast to be added annually

Doosan Enerbility announced on March 14th that it had signed a contract valued to be KRW 890 billion with the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) for construction of the combined cycle power plant,  PP12( Power Plant 12).  Doosan Enerbility won this contract together with its consortium partner SEPCO-3, a company that specializes in power plant construction, and will be taking on project work that encompasses design & engineering, supply of key equipment and the overall commissioning process.

The 1,800MW-scale PP12 is scheduled to be built by 2028 at a location that is approximately 150km to the northwest of Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh.  SEC is pursuing this project to swiftly address the rapidly growing electricity demand in Saudi Arabia.  Once the PP12 is built, it is expected to contribute to securing grid stability for the country.

“As it is forecast that 6GW of power generation capacity will be added annually over the next five years in Saudi Arabia, we expect to see a continuous rise in electricity demand across the region,” said Hyeonho Lee, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Plant EPC Business Group.  “This year alone, by successfully winning four new contracts in the Middle East region - the Peaking Unit Generation Plant in Qatar and Rumah-1, Nairyah-1 and PP12 power plants in Saudi Arabia – we have demonstrated our competitiveness and we now seek to leverage this to further expand our reach in the market.”

Upon winning this project, Doosan Enerbility has recorded a total order intake of approximately KRW 6.7 trillion in Saudi Arabia over the past five years.  Doosan signed a contract most recently on March 12th for the Rumah-1 and Nairyah-1 combined cycle gas turbine power plants. Prior to this, numerous other projects such as the Jafurah Cogeneration Plant, Tuwaiq Casting & Forging Facility, Yanbu 4 and Shuaibah 3 desalination plant construction projects were also won.▲ Location of the recently won PP12 combined cycle power plant
