Doosan Enerbility announced on August 25th that it had been awarded a KRW 560 billion contract by Korea Gas Corporation(KOGAS) to construct three LNG storage tanks (270,000㎘, Tanks No. 5-7) for the Dangjin LNG Terminal Phase 2 project in South Chungcheong Province.

This is being pursued as part of the South Chungcheong Province’s Dangjin LNG Production Base Project in Seokmun-myeon, Tongjeong-ri of Dangjin city, following after Phase 1, which entailed roof air-raising for the LNG tanks, all of which was completed last year.  By winning this contract, Doosan Enerbility will now be taking on the construction of three storage tanks and supplying the ancillary facilities. Construction is scheduled to start this coming September and is to be completed by December 2029.

By winning the Phase 2 contract, Doosan Enerbility will be building a total of seven storage tanks for the Dangjin LNG Terminal in South Chungcheong Province. Having been selected as the contractor for Phase 1 (Tanks No. 1-4) in 2021, Doosan is currently in the process of executing the related construction work. For Phase 1, the roof air-raising work was completed on all four LNG tanks and the internal construction work is currently in progress. Doosan Enerbility has a track record of having performed such LNG storage tank construction work for other sites as well, such as the Incheon, Pyeongtaek and Samcheok Terminals.

“Our track record of having successfully carried out numerous LNG storage tank projects in the Korean domestic market played a huge role in our recent project win,” said Hyeonho Lee, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Plant EPC Business Group. “We will diligently carry out the Phase 2 work, as we did for Phase 1, to contribute to the supply and demand balancing of natural gas.”

The Dangjin LNG storage tank construction is part of the large-scale LNG Production Base Project being carried out at the Dangjin Seokmun National Industrial Complex, a project that aims at improving the domestic supply-demand balance of LNG.▲ Aerial view of Dangjin LNG Production Base
