- Ultra-large steam generator forgings, 5m in diameter and 130 ton-class, to be supplied by 2029
- Consecutive order following Laiyang Units 3 and 4, reconfirming Doosan’s technological competitiveness in China’s nuclear power market

Doosan Enerbility announced on July 27 that it has signed a contract with Dongfang Electric International(DEI) and Dongfang Heavy Machinery(DFHM), subsidiaries of China’s Dongfang Electric Group, to supply ultra-large forgings for steam generators* at Laiyang Nuclear Power Plant Units 5 and 6 in Shandong Province, China.
* Steam generator : A key component of a nuclear power plant that uses heat generated by the reactor to produce steam, which drives the turbine to generate electricity.

Under the contract, Doosan Enerbility will sequentially supply eight ultra-large forgings – four channel heads* and four tube sheets** for steam generators – for Laiyang Units 5 and 6 by 2029.
* Channel head : A forged component located at the bottom of a steam generator that provides flow paths for reactor coolant intoand out of the steam generator.
** Tube sheet: A key steam generator component that supports thousands of heat-transfer tubes and separates the reactor coolantfrom the water in the secondary system

The forgings to be supplied are ultra-large components measuring 5 meters in diameter and weighing up to 130 tons, serving as key materials for nuclear steam generators.

Doosan Enerbility leverages its world-class 17,000-ton press and ultra-large forging technologies to manufacture and supply major nuclear power components to the global market.

Laiyang Units 5 and 6 will adopt CAP1400, China’s next-generation, 1,400MW-class nuclear reactor model. By securing a consecutive order for Units 5 and 6 following last year’s order for Laiyang Units 3 and 4, Doosan Enerbility has once again demonstrated its technological capabilities and quality competitiveness in China’s nuclear power market. Especially, the company received high marks for its quality and on-time delivery, based on its strong track record of successfully supplying steam generator forgings for the Haiyang AP1000 nuclear power plant.

“This consecutive order for Laiyang Units 5 and 6 is particularly meaningful, as it reaffirms the recognition of our technological and quality competitiveness in China’s nuclear power market,” said Jongdoo Kim, CEO of Doosan Enerbility. “Building on our manufacturing expertise and ultra-large forging technologies, we will continue to strengthen our competitiveness in the global nuclear power supply chain.”

China is continuously pursuing the construction of new nuclear power plants in line with its nuclear expansion policy, aiming to become the world’s largest nuclear power producer by 2035. With this latest contract, Doosan Enerbility plans to further strengthen the cooperation in China’s nuclear market, while increasing its supply of key equipment and components across the global nuclear power supply chain.
