- □ Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction announced on July 26 that its US affiliate DHIA had finalized the acquisition of ACT Independent Turbo Services (ACT), a US gas turbine service company. Following the acquisition, ACT will be renamed “Doosan Turbomachinery Services.”
- □ The Houston, Texas-based ACT, a company possessing service technology for diverse gas turbine models, is a provider of repair and maintenance services for the core components of gas turbines, including combustors, turbines, and rotors. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction signed a memorandum of understanding to take over ACT in June.
- □ With the acquisition, Doosan will secure not only professionals and facilities specializing in gas turbine services, but also order backlogs and know-how; thus instantly entering the US gas turbine market with a capacity of 16GW per annum. The company has also secured the foundation for making inroads into the global gas turbine service market, which is projected to reach approximately 210GW – or 2.5 times Korea’s entire annual power output -- by 2030.
- □ Notably, Doosan will be able to apply the competency and know-how that ACT had secured over the years from various gas turbine services to the state-supported project of gas turbine technology development, a project scheduled to extend until 2019, thereby providing significant momentum to the project.
- □ “By utilizing the technology and experience from diverse fields of plant engineering, including power generation and seawater desalination, areas that Doosan Heavy already holds competencies in, we will cultivate ACT into a ‘Total Solution Provider,’ one that offers differentiated solutions in the gas turbine service field. Through these efforts, the company will continue to expand its presence not only in the US market, but also in Korea, where eco-friendly power generation is drawing attention, and the Middle East and European markets,” said Heung-gweon Park, CEO of the Turbine Generator BG.
- □ Meanwhile, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction held a “Doosan-Houston Day,” an event commemorating the acquisition of the US firm, at the ACT head office in Houston. Attending the event were Heung-gweon Park, CEO of the Turbine Generator BG, and ACT’s staff and executives, including ACT CEO Billy Coleman.
